Want to ditch the salon but keep the salon finish? Let’s start with the roots — literally. Whether you’ve been Colouring your Hair at home for a while or you're a salon regular finally ready to take the plunge into DIY root touch-ups, this guide is for you. We’re talking easy, stress-free root maintenance that actually works.

After Hair Colour: Hazelnut Blonde + 20 Volume Developer
First up: decide on your game plan. Do you want to match your current Shade exactly? Or go a touch deeper to freshen things up? Once you’ve got your Colour goal in mind, you’ll be able to find the perfect match to cover those roots, revive your Tone, and keep your Colour looking seamless — all from the comfort of home.
What You’ll Need
Root perfection = three essentials. A Hair Colour that matches (or upgrades) your current Shade, the right Developer to bring it to life, and a tool that gives you application confidence — no salon needed.
Think of it as your at-home Colour ritual: curated, intentional, and designed to deliver pro-level results without the fuss.
But before you dive in, here’s what to consider when choosing your perfect match:
Step 1: Choose Your Hair Colour
70–100% Grey?
Grey Hair can be a little sneaky — it's often Lighter than you’d expect. For example, a 9 Very Light Blonde might end up looking almost translucent. If you want that dreamy 9 Very Light Blonde look, try an 8 Light Blonde or even a 7 Medium Blonde instead. Trust us — the result will be more dimensional and Natural-looking.
Got 50% or more Grey?
Your best bet is to go for Natural, Gold, or a mix of the two. These tones offer solid Grey coverage and richness. Our go-tos? Boss Blonde and Hazelnut Blonde — they’re like the perfect Colour Cocktail: smooth, flattering, and foolproof.
Does your Hair throw Warmth?
If your Hair tends to reveal a Golden or Orange cast after Colouring — especially when Lightening — you’re not alone. This is totally normal. To calm it down and keep things soft and Cool, look for Shades with Ash or Beige Tones. They help neutralise that Warmth without making your Colour look flat.
Not sure where to start?
When in doubt, start Lighter. It’s much easier to deepen your Colour later than it is to lift it again. Plus, starting with a Lighter base gives you more flexibility for future tweaks (or spontaneous Hair moments — we support those too).

Step 2: Pick Your Developer
Here’s the joy of not using a boxed dye — you get choices. Real, salon-worthy choices. Our four Developers give you the freedom to personalise your root touch-up based on what your Hair actually needs, not what a one-size-fits-all kit says.
No Lift Developer
Use this when:
– Your Regrowth is 100% Natural
– You have no Greys
– Your Natural Colour is Lighter than the Colour you're applying
Example: Your Natural Hair is a 7 Medium Blonde and you Colour your Hair a 5 Light Brown. Mix your 5 Light Brown with No Lift Developer for a rich, even result without unnecessary Lightening.

No Lift
Developer
20 Volume Developer
Use this when:
– You have 50% or more Grey
– You want to Lighten your Natural Colour 1–2 Shades
– You’re aiming for soft, Natural-looking lift
Example: Your roots are 5 Light Brown, but your overall Colour is a cool Blonde. Use 7.1 Ash Blonde with 20 Volume Developer to lift your roots a couple of Shades, neutralise warmth, and blend into your Blonde beautifully.

20 Volume
Developer
30 Volume Developer
Use this when:
– You want to Lighten your Natural Colour 3 Shades
– You want bright, bold Colour payoff
Example: Your Natural Colour is a 5 Light Brown, but you love a striking Copper. Mix 8.44 Intense Copper Blondewith 30 Volume Developer to lift and Colour in one go for vivid, glowing results.

30 Volume
Developer
40 Volume Developer
Use this when:
– You want to Lighten your Natural Colour 4 Shades
– You're aiming for Light or Extra Light Blonde
– You want that soft, bright, high-lift finish
Example: Your Natural Regrowth is a 6 Dark Blonde, and your Hair is a pale, creamy Extra Light Blonde. Use 10.2 Very Light Beige Blonde or one of our High Lift Blonde Shades with 40 Volume Developer to bring your roots up to match.

Step 3: Application Accessories
You’ve got the Colour. You’ve picked the perfect Developer. Now you just need the right tool to apply it like a pro — or at least look like you know what you're doing in the bathroom mirror. Choose the one that makes you feel confident and in control while keeping that Colour exactly where it needs to be — your roots.

Tip Once your roots are done, if the rest of your Hair’s looking a little meh — faded, brassy, or just in need of a glow-up — you can refresh it. Think: a Toner, a gloss, or simply combing your leftover Colour through the mids and ends for the last 5–20 minutes. Because the goal isn’t just roots — it’s a full look.

Step 4: Blend + Boost
Your roots are coated, your timer is ticking — but don’t let that leftover Colour go to waste. This is your moment to multitask like a pro.
In the last 20 minutes of your root development time, take whatever Colour you have left and gently work it through the mids and ends. Use a Wide Tooth Comb to pull the Colour down from your roots and distribute it evenly. This adds a soft refresh, a little dimension, and helps your Colour melt seamlessly from root to tip.
