Dear My Hairdresser,
I’m about to use Colour Remover for the first time and I wanted to know what should I expect my Hair to be like afterwards? Honestly, I have a list of questions:.
Is Colour Removing once enough?
Does Colour Remover smell?
If I leave Colour Remover on my Hair longer, will it remove more Hair Colour?
Will it Lighten my Natural Colour?
How long after Colour Removing can I Colour my Hair?
Is it true that my Hair will go Orange and Brassy?
If my Hair does go Orange and Brassy, should I Tone before reColouring? Or can I Tone straight away?
Thanks in advance!
My Hairdresser
I'm going to put it out there, we are Colour Remover fanatics. We’re obsessed with watching the Hair transition right in front of our eyes and get excited at the prospect of our next Colour Remover session. It's always fun to have a first timer amongst us, seeing the panic before and the relief once it's done. So let’s answer your questions to turn you too into a believer.
It differs from person to person how many times you will need to Colour Remove. Your Hair may be cleared out the first time or it may take 2 or 3 applications. How many Colour Remover applications you will need depends on key factors:
How long you have been Colouring your Hair
The type of Hair Colour you're Removing (eg: Dark / Black Hair Colours will take longer to Colour Remove)
Your amount of Colour Build Up. Completely removing Colour Build Up is important for your Hair’s health and future Hair Colours.
Colour Remover definitely has a distinct smell. The key ingredient that gets the work done and removes the Colour is the smelliest (typical). It will go after a few good shampoos.
If you leave Colour Remover on your Hair for longer than the instructed 20 minutes you will not remove more Hair Colour. It will actually reverse the Colour Removing process.
Colour Remover is bleach free, so it does not have the ability to Lighten your Hair. There is no point wasting that liquid gold on your Natural Hair, keep it focused on the Coloured Hair.
After a successful Colour Remover, your Hair will be Warm (it’s a good thing and a sign of success).
We like to wait at least 48 hours before Colouring. After Colour Removing your Hair shaft is completely open, so it absorbs anything you put on your Hair. This can make your Hair Colour a lot Darker than expected. When reColouring, choose a Hair Colour 2 shades Lighter than your desired Colour outcome.
If you don’t want to Colour after Colour Removing, but you want to Cool down the Warmth, wait at least 48 hours to let the Hair settle before Toning. Once you have applied your Toner Kit mixture, keep a close eye on your Hair as it will process quicker than usual.
Alternatively, if you do want to Colour and remove the Warmth, wait at least 48 hours and choose a Cool Hair Colour to Tone down the Warmth.
Good luck, make sure to send us some before and after pics!
